We identify these types of requests as ghost requests:

What are ghost requests?

What qualifies as a ghost request: An open request that has a launch date/time over than the maximum number of days before deletion setting. It has a single open action that is assigned to the requester. It must not be a sub-process request and the single action must not be a sub-process action.

You can specify the number of days a ghost request should be deleted in the Admin Configuration Panel → Portal → Request → Delete ghost requests older than (days). The engine service will delete a request if it qualifies as a ghost request.
